too slinky for clergywear?

Ann Taylor Loft has a couple of new dresses out in black (here and here)--they're wrap-style, which means that your Janie won't be totally obvious underneath.

What do we think?
Too slinky to wear to church (with a collar)?
Let the rumpus begin!

oh how I wish I had a body that would look good in either of those dresses! We don't wear collars at my church (most of the time) so they could be perfect....but not on me. sad.

Would the Janie not leave visible lines under any jersey fabric? That's why I don't like wearing mine--it ends up all clunky under whatever I'm wearing.

I'm with Sarah K. I think it would have lines. I have an Ann Taylor Loft dress similar to those and there's no way a Janie could go underneath, unless it were satin.

I agree with SarahK. I have a similar wrap dress from Ann Taylor Loft, and a Janie would definitely leave lines under a dress like that. Does anyone make a "silky" Janie?

For anyone who's in the situation of dealing with maternity clothes and the collar--a dress similar to this (or a black top like this) is indispensible in your maternity wardrobe. You give up on the visible lines/Janie issue as you get bigger and bigger, and start wearing this type of dress all the time!!!

But, I agree--they could make those Janies much better under fabric!

I've worn a similar one from Ann Taylor, and the fabric was substantial enough that the janie didn't rumple through.

I have almost that same short sleeved one and I am planning on wearing it when it's warm with a collar and (gasp!) high-heeled sandals. I don't think we should aim for sexy, but fashionable is a must!

The sliky janie is just as clumpy as the burlap one but really shiny, too (what is that fabric on the original janie, anyway? It does wear like iron.)

I sure wish the lovely folk at womenspirit would make a janie out of that "chico traveler" fabric (very stretchy, black poly/rayon/spandex that is indestructable for the most part and hangs well under anything).
Even a lingere type fabric would work, so long as it was opaque and not too shiny and fit closely with some stretch. Since so little of it is seen, it doesn't have to be particularly modest in and of itself. If it were stretchy, it could fit like a sleeveless mock turtleneck with a collar, and you wouldn't need the hooks.

I digress: as far as the dress goes, if you could get the collar to work right it would look great. I think the wrap dresses look great on curvier figures, and are very flattering. Slinky is as slinky does, to some degree, and if this dress fit properly it would be fine.

When I was pregnant with twins I sacrificed a Womanspirit black shell blouse and made it into a janie. I took the scissors to it and just cut off the arms and sides, leaving plenty of shirt left to tuck into the large black t-shirts I could still fit into, and buttoned my collar on as usual. I still use it and because there are no straps or seams it goes under any top flawlessly. Now, being well over a size 4, me fitting into a dress like that is another story, but if you have a clerical shirt that you don't particiulary care for, just whip out those scissors and do your worst.
