Lydia, Oh Lydia!

Jessica brings to our attention that Augsburg Fortress has a new line of women's clergy shirts out that are (gasp!) cute and (wowzers!) cotton yet wrinkle free! Mercy me.

They don't have sizes for small, flat chested women like me, but I have called and made my desires known and they will call me if they decide to begin producing smaller sizes. In the meantime, they have a generous range of sizes for everyone size 6 and beyond.

Check them out here.

These are pretty nice, although, I too would like a smaller size. I've pretty much resigned myself to getting a good tailor and having clergy shirts taken in. Is there anyone who makes clericals for skinny gals?

meh. I'm still not overly impressed with Lydia shirts, although they are a fine basic option. The three Lydias I have have NO allowance for a chest in front--no darts, no princess seams, no nothing (not even those weird gathered shoulders like the women's Friar Tuck shirts have). Being flat-chested myself, this is not the end of the world, but if I weren't, it would drive me nuts!

Apart from that, they don't really seem that different from men's shirts--they come on cardboard and have a very straight up-and-down fit. But they are serviceable enough that I recently bought another one.

I just have to say that bust size and neck size do not always increase together in the neat increments that the size charts for these shirts indicate.

Why oh why can't women's shirts come with variable sleeve and neck sizes like men's shirts?

No wonder we see so many women with their collars swimming around their necks. Gah.

(I don't like them too tight either :)

The Friar Tuck shirts fit me way better than the Lydia ones. I am short and fat (no other way to put it) with the weight in my tummy. The FT shirts close on me with room to spare, so the pleats work out well. The Lydia ones -- in my closet. They just didn't work out, although I love the colors.

As to collars....sigh. Short, fat AND no neck! But that's another issue.

I'll stick with a blazer and nice white shirt for now, I guess.

Anyone have any tips on how to get neckband collars to go on easily and keep the collar fabric inside the collar. I have to make sure I have 10 minutes or so to get a neckband collar on.
